On April 20, 1959, Lynnwood was officially incorporated, the City was once part of the unincorporated area of Alderwood Manor. Originally the land was platted and sold for raising chickens on one acre lots. These eighty year old homes and chicken ranches can still be seen today.
State Route 524 and 99 were the City's initial roads until Interstate 5 was built making forty-fourth avenue the main Lynnwood exit. The City was born when the city zoned 194th and 48th streets for commercial development. The center of Lynnwood was moved east as the construction of the Landmark, Fred Meyer store and other commercial developments came to the area. The center of the City was moved farther east after the construction of Interstate 405 and the Alderwood Mall.
New business is brought to the City everyday. A convention center recently opened at 196th street, and many new additions have come to the Alderwood Mall.
